The Ministry of Health said in a statement the new case in managed isolation arrived from India on 17 May.

The total number of active cases in New Zealand today is 24 and the total number of confirmed cases is 2303.

Yesterday there were six new cases of Covid-19 in managed isolation and quarantine facilities but no new cases in the community.

The ministry yesterday said that further testing of Wellington's wastewater on 15 and 17 May revealed traces of Covid-19 in Porirua and Karori. The testing was done after two weak positive results were detected on Sunday, with the Ministry of Health saying they likely came from recently recovered cases continuing to shed the virus.

It said today that weak positive results had been detected in Wellington, Christchurch, Rotorua and Queenstown recently.

In subsequent testing, Queenstown and Wellington samples have returned negative results. Further testing in Christchurch and Rotorua is underway.

"The Ministry's assessment of these results is that there is a low risk to the New Zealand community.

"The Ministry's current assessment remains that the weak positive results are likely from recent positive cases in managed isolation or due to recently recovered cases who are not infectious but continue to shed the virus after returning home or while travelling.

"There is no risk of infection from Covid-19 in wastewater."

Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins yesterday revealed that the Covid vaccine roll-out is costing the government $1.4 billion.

Finance Minister Grant Robertson, who is due to deliver the Budget this afternoon, said New Zealand is "still in the shadow of Covid" although the country is "now moving into the recovery phase".
