ACC acknowledges disability support

ACC has acknowledged to a United Nations committee that the corporation's purpose includes supporting people with disabilities for life.

Acclaim Otago, which was behind a successful court ruling against an illegal ACC privacy waiver form, submitted a shadow report to the UN committee on the Rights of People with a Disability.

Group spokesperson Denise Powell said she was heartened by the interest the UN committee showed in their concerns during this week's hearing.

Ms Powell said ACC told the committee it aims to restore independence to people with disabilities and provide lifetime support.

Acclaim Otago said it looks forward to ACC's statement being translated into reality after the committee released its recommendations in about a fortnight.
