A police patrol vehicle responding to a ram raid on King Street in Pukekohe at about 2.30am this morning noticed a damaged vehicle on Karaka Road.

A police spokesperson said the vehicle fled towards Papakura but road spikes brought it to a stop.

A youth jumped from the vehicle while it was driving at slow speed and two others were caught a short time later after the vehicle stopped and they fled on foot.

The person who jumped from the vehicle was taken to hospital and remains in Starship Hospital in a moderate condition.

An 18-year-old male is due to appear in Manukau District Court today charged with stealing a vehicle, burglary, failing to stop and dangerous driving.

Another young person is set to appear in the Youth Court on charges of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle, and burglary.
