The New Zealand Herald reports a man died while waiting on Auckland City hospital's semi-urgent heart waiting list, after a faxed test result was too faint to read and no request was made for a legible copy. Health and Disability Commissioner Anthony Hill on Monday criticised Auckland DHB for failing to have an effective system in place.

Auckland's red hot property market features with a front page picture of Juliet Blair standing outside her Orakei house which sold at auction for $846,000 - $246,000 more than she paid for it a year earlier.

Waikato Times

The Waikato Times covers Hamilton's hot property market, reporting a mini real-estate boom in the city's east as families look to snap up a property in the heavily sought-after school zone. Meanwhile, a shortage of houses on the market in northeast Hamilton has resulted in more people wanting to buy in the area, than there are houses available.

And Waikato - Bay of Plenty Magic extinguished the Queensland Firebirds on Monday night 53 - 43, continuing their netbnall championship dreams.

Dominion Post

The Dominion Post reports on violence at a children's rugby match. A witness from the under-11s game says tears streamed down the face of a boy as he watched his father being beaten up.

The jury in the Scott Guy murder trial have been urged to reach a verdict unanimously. The 11 jurors deliberated for five hours on Monday on whether or not Ewen Macdonald murdered his brother in law, but failed to reach a verdict.

The Press

The Press reports that Christchurch City Council members say they have been kept in the dark over a deal with the Government that could see ratepayers shouldering a $100+ million bill for Port Hills land judged too unsafe to live on.

The paper also reports a Canterbury police officer is the subject of an internal investigation after a colleague laid a complaint about sexual harassment.

The Otago Daily Times reports two teenagers were burnt in a house fire after the gas bottles from which they were sniffing exploded in Mosgiel on Monday. They remain in critical condition in intensive care in Dunedin hospital

And the paper reports on the freezing temperatures in Twizel, which fell to minus 10 degrees centigrade on Monday, the 34th morning of sub-zero temperatures out of the past 35.
