We may never know why a family of ducks crossed the road, but bad luck followed in Dunedin on Saturday.

The wayfaring waterfowls caused a three-vehicle crash.
A 47-year-old woman stopped to allow the family of ducks to cross the busy Kaikorai Valley Rd at about 6pm on Saturday - and police were called soon afterwards.
Acting Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said the woman's car was rear-ended by a 55-year-old male driver, who did not notice her car and failed to stop in time.
The second car was hit by another 55-year-old male driver, who was distracted by a wrecked car on the side of the road.
The wreck that caught the driver's eye was from an earlier crash caused by distracted driving on the same road on Saturday.
A 25-year-old male driver lost control of his vehicle as he reached for his vape pen and hit a parked car, causing significant damage.
Bond said no-one was injured in the crashes, though the status of the ducks was unclear.
