A shortage of train drivers is preventing the expansion of passenger services between Hamilton and Auckland.

The train driver shortage, as well as a holdup obtaining safety compliance, means additional non-peak services on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays probably won't be introduced until at least June, 2024.

It had been hoped they would be rolled out in October last year.

The Waīkato Regional Transport Committee deputy chair Angela Strange, spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
