More than 400 people have piled into a Christchurch school hall to hear whether a proposed skate park in Sumner will go ahead.
An extraordinary meeting of the Hagley Ferrymead Community Board will decide tonight whether clothing firm Levi's will be allowed to build a $180,000 skate park in the seaside suburb.
Sumner was badly damaged in the quakes, and the site was identified by Levi's as the most suitable for the park.
But some residents believe exchanging a conservation site for a so-called concrete slab goes against the city council's vision for the town.
The meeting also attracted many supporters, including children and teenagers holding signs in favour of the park.
