Bougainville is sending a team around the main centres of Papua New Guinea to raise awareness about next year's referendum on independence.
In June of 2019 Bougainville will hold a vote on whether to become independent of PNG or to maintain autonomy within the state as has existed since 2005.
The main aim of the Bougainville's Department of Peace Agreement Implementation is to make people aware of the current autonomy arrangements; to develop the criteria for voting by Bougainvilleans living outside of Bougainville; and to promote re-unification among Bougainvilleans ahead of the vote.
The department's head, James Tanis, told Don Wiseman about the most important aspect of the work they are doing.
