The Rangatahi Takatāpui Artist Residency Program will see one Takatāpui artist create a body of work to be featured in Te Tīmatanga in 2023.

The program provides access to a studio space, material costs, technical support, and pastoral care.

After reflecting on the success of Te Tīmatanga in 2022, Auckland Pride creative director Elyssia Wilson-Heti said Auckland Pride was excited to offer the opportunity to an up and coming Takatāpui artist.

"It became really clear that we wanted to create an opportunity to support an emerging rangatahi Takatāpui artist to incubate and develop their ideas," Wilson-Heti said.

A Tuakana-Teina model would be used to support the artist taking up the residency, to help foster their creativity in order to produce the best body of work possible.

Auckland Pride said the framework for the model created great intergenerational support and an opportunity for knowledge exchange to take place for both the mentee and mentor.

At the end of the residency, the artist will have the chance to sell their art as part of Te Tīmatanga in 2023, which runs from 1 February to 26 February.

Applications for the Rangatahi Takatāpui Artist Residency Program are open now, and close on 29 July.
