15:42 pm on 12 December 2008

The Solomon Islands Derek Sikua led government has pledged to create an anti-corruption commission.

This was revealed by the Minister of Education, Mathew Wale who spoke at the World Anti Corruption rally in Honiara this week.

He says it is being put together and will be submitted to cabinet.

"There will be legislation by 2010 at the latest on an independent commission against corruption, much along the lines of New South Wales ICAC model. It will supersede the current leadership code commission."

Minister Wale also revealed a National Audit Office will be established to give more independence to the Auditor General.

He says the National Audit Office under the new arrangements will report directly to parliament.
