There were no new cases of Covid-19 in Waikato today, but the two community cases reported in the region yesterday remain unlinked. See how today's Covid-19 developments unfolded with RNZ's live blog.

There were 71 new community cases reported in New Zealand today, all in Auckland.

While the two community cases reported in Waikato yesterday have still not been linked to other cases, the Ministry of Health said some potential connections have been identified and investigations were continuing.

The Ministry said results of whole genome sequencing are expected tonight.

There were 3680 swabs taken in Waikato yesterday as testing numbers remained high, along with 6327 vaccinations.

Meanwhile, University of Canterbury Covid-19 modeller professor Michael Plank says 100 Covid-19 patients going to hospital a week is a "likely scenario" by early next month.

At the current spread, he is predicting about 150 cases a day by early November - 1000 cases a week.

Plank predicts 10 to 20 people a week could need intensive care.
