Recap: updates on day 7 at the Tokyo Olympics

The Black Ferns thrashed the Russian Olympic Federation 36-0 in the night's first quarterfinal before Fiji edged the Rio gold medallists Australia 14-12 in the second quarterfinal.

Marcus Daniell and Michael Venus capped off a great day for New Zealand by beating a US pair to claim the bronze medal in the tennis doubles.

Meanwhile, NZ boxer David Nyika has won his heavyweight quarterfinal fight and will advance to the semis. He beat Belarusian Uladzislau Smiahlikau this afternoon and is now guaranteed to get at least a bronze medal.

It was a golden hour for New Zealand rowers earlier - the men's eight team won New Zealand's second gold medal at the Olympics this afternoon, following Emma Twigg's earlier triumph.

Twigg took out the gold in the women's single sculls final, while the women's eight team won silver.
