Three people, including two teenage girls, will appear in court on Saturday in connection with the killing of an elderly Bay of Plenty man.

John Rowe, 78, was found dead in his Opotiki home last month. He died from head injuries.

Police described the attack as especially violent and cowardly.

The two girls, aged 15 and 17, have been charged with murder.

A man, 21, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact and attempting to defeat the course of justice.
