New South Wales is looking for a new leader after Premier Gladys Berejiklian suddenly quit her job on Friday.

She made the announcement just one hour after the Independent Commission Against Corruption said it was investigating her five-year "close and personal relationship" with a colleague.

The watchdog will determine if her alliance with ex-MP Daryl Maguire breached public trust.

NSW is now bracing for the fallout from Berejiklian's shock resignation. All this as the state prepares to emerge from one of the longest lockdowns in the world.

ABC Correspondent Lara Hyams spoke to Corin Dann.
