There are 2066 new community cases of Covid-19 and 286 are in hospital, the Ministry of Health says.
Of the people in hospital with Covid-19, three were in intensive care or a high dependency unit, the ministry said in its daily update.
The ministry said the seven-day rolling average of community case numbers today was 2023 - last Thursday it was 3061.
The seven-day rolling average of hospitalisations today is 319. Last Wednesday it was 416.
The total number of active cases in the country is 14,155.
At its briefing yesterday, the ministry announced a further 17 deaths of people with the virus, 2244 new cases and 288 people in hospital - the lowest number since February.
Today RNZ reported thousands more children were going to school each day as Covid-19 case numbers dropped.
Principals had worried August would be the worst period for winter illnesses but Education Ministry figures showed attendance averaged 82.5 percent for the first four weeks of the current school term, an improvement on 79 percent for the last five weeks of the second school term.
That equated to about 38,000 more children in class each day.
