The Methodist Church of Fiji has applied for a police permit to hold a three-day meeting, assuring the Police Commissioner, Esala Teleni, that many of the senior figures in the church will not be present.
The acting Church Secretary, Reverend Tevita Nawadra, has told Fiji Village that they are now awaiting a response.
He says they will be discussing church administration issues but the president, the Reverend Ame Tugawe, the church secretary Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu, and other leading church figures, Reverends Tomasi Kanailagi and Manasa Lasaro, will not attend.
Last month the military regime forced the church to cancel its annual conference and to put off its choir festival after accusing the leadership of defying the emergency regulations.
It had accused them of de-stabilizing the peace.
