State Highway Two in Bay of Plenty has reopened on Saturday morning.
It was closed by a large slip at Pikowai on Friday night that came down in heavy rain.
The Transport Agency said contractors worked through the night to clear it and the road opened shortly before 8.30am.
It said the surface was still slippery and a temporary speed limit was in place.
Drivers were asked to take extra care.
