Locals in the Solomon Islands provincial capital of Temotu Province are getting emergency food and aid supplies earmarked for the more badly damaged areas of Santa Cruz following last week's quake and tsunami.
At least 10 people have been killed and several thousand left homeless.
Distribution of the aid from Lata to remote areas has continued after a vessel arrived at the weekend, carrying food, water, tarpaulins and medical supplies.
Our correspondent on Lata , George West, says because of continuing aftershocks, many people from Lata, while their houses remain intact, are still sheltering on higher ground.
He says officials have given them food and other supplies intended for the homeless.
"Now they are stepping up distribution in the plateau areas where Lata and Graciosa Bay and downtown residents are seeking safety. The authorities have actually ruled them out as ineligible for assistance because they said that most of them lost nothing although they ran away up the hills because of fear."
George West says locals in Lata are struggling as many businesses remain closed or suffered damage.
