Tamaki Makaurau's Pop-up Globe theatre has fallen victim to what its organisers call the "Covid-19 wrecking ball".
It has filed for bankruptcy, its two trading companies have been put into liquidation, and advice is being sought on its two other companies.
Organisers say they are "gutted" they couldn't weather the Covid-19 recession.
The pandemic forced them to close the Auckland theatre, made international touring impossible and dried up all its income.
The Pop-up Globe was a full-scale working replica of the London theatre where many of Shakespeare's plays were originally performed.
