A man has been arrested after a three-hour police chase in Northland involving four stolen cars, a light plane and a ride-on mower.
The police say the chase began when two stolen cars were spotted near Paihia.
One of the cars was abandoned in a nearby quarry and another one was then taken.
The police say when they caught up with that vehicle, it rammed a patrol car before heading off and being spotted by a small plane in the area.
They say the driver abandoned the car and took another one from Motatau School, despite the best efforts of the caretaker who tried to block the car with a ride-on mower.
A police dog handler finally caught up with the driver.
The police are still looking for a second man who abandoned one of the original stolen cars.
