The receiver of Pike River Coal says the mine won't be sold before Christmas.
Twenty-nine men were killed in explosions there on 19 November last year, and the company was put into receivership the following month.
Receiver John Fisk says a number of international parties are interested in the mine, but the sale process is taking longer than initially hoped.
Mr Fisk says he does not expect to sign a sale agreement before Christmas.
