The Government has released an outline of how it will carry out its review of electoral finance legislation.
Justice Minister Simon Power says the Government is seeking a wide range of views, both from political parties and the public, to help build an effective replacement for the Electoral Finance Act.
The legislation was repealed earlier this year and a temporary system put in place while the new spending rules are developed.
Submissions on an issues paper to be released next month will be used in the development of a document setting out the Government's proposed reforms, to be issued in August.
A special cross-party select committee will then be established to consider the bill.
New electoral law is to be in place before the 2011 general election.
