Police seek motorists' help after possible sighting of missing man

Police searching for a missing man in Northland are appealing for dashcam footage.

The last confirmed sighting of Kukama Waa, who has physical and intellectual impairments, was in a bush area near Pipiwai on the morning of 5 January.

Despite days of extensive searches by a large team of search and rescue crews in the wider Pipiwai bush area, Waa remains missing.

Police are following up a possible sighting of him on the afternoon of 5 January, where a person has reported seeing him walking south on Pipiwai Road, just south of the Pipiwai township.

Officers are appealing for any motorists with dashcam who travelled on Pipiwai Road between 4pm to 6pm last Wednesday to check their footage.

"We know that forestry workers and trucks frequent this area and we are particularly appealing for any truck drivers or forestry vehicles which may have been in the area on January 5th and have dash cam footage."

Waa is approximately 172cm tall, of large build, and has one arm.

He was last seen wearing blue-coloured tracksuit pants and a red shirt.
