Police Minister Judith Collins says two fatal police pursuits at the weekend do not warrant an immediate change in policy.
A motorcyclist died and his female pillion passenger was seriously injured when their bike crashed during a pursuit in Picton on Saturday night.
In Murchison, a short high speed chase left one person dead and another critically injured when their vehicle crashed early on Sunday morning.
Ms Collins says she will not support a policy change that allows motorists to get away with speeding up to escape the police.
Investigations are being carried out by the Independent Police Conduct Authority.
