Vaccination efforts are being ramped up across Auckland this weekend in the wake of two measles cases on the North Shore.

Albany Senior High School was closed on Wednesday when it was found a student at the open-plan school was infectious.

A household contact also has the disease and contact tracing is under way for the school's 1000 students and staff.

Te Aka Whai Ora deputy chief executive public and population health Selah Hart said: "Measles is a highly infectious illness and can make people very unwell. It spreads very easily amongst people who have not had measles before, or who have not been immunised".

She said if people were unsure of whether they have had two doses of the vaccine, they should play it safe and get vaccinated.

There were no safety concerns with an extra dose, she added.

MMR vaccine is free for everyone under the age of 18 and for permanent citizen, resident, and those eligible for free healthcare in the country.

Hart said in addition to the measles, vaccinations for whooping cough, the flu and the new Covid-19 bivalent vaccines were also available.

Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora said pop-up vaccination clinics will be located in Henderson, Papatoetoe and Manurewa.
