Two unarmed police officers are being commended for their bravery in apprehending a man who allegedly fired a shotgun at a police car outside an Auckland hospital today.
The incident happened outside Waitakere Hospital's emergency department at about 3pm this afternoon.
Detective Inspector Bruce Scott said the officers were not inside the car when it was shot at.
He said they took some decisive and brave action in apprehending the man, despite being unarmed.
Mr Scott said the police had earlier been called to a house in Glenfield after reports of two shots being fired inside.
The police are speaking with the apprehended man but no charge has yet been laid.
