The prefecture said the individual arrived on 3 October, prompting an extension of their compulsory 14-day quarantine.

Until today, Wallis and Futuna was the only French-administered area without the coronavirus.

The prefecture said the person concerned, who is asymptomatic, has been placed in the hospital's isolation ward.

The only access to the territory is via New Caledonia, which also has mandatory quarantine.
