Samoa will have eight television channels when its digital service goes into operation next year.
The head of Samoa's telecommunications regulator Lefaoali'i Unutoa Auelua said 16 digital channels would operate when the country switches from the current analogue service.
She said the remaining eight were earmarked for radio which would follow television's move to the digital platform.
Lefaoali'i said local company Samoa Digital Communication Limited was building the system.
Samoa currently has seven television channels broadcasting and Lefaoali'i said all of them would have to be part of the digital migration in order to operate.
