Dancer: Joseph Skelton

15:47 pm on 11 April 2014

Joseph Skelton grew up in Pukekohe, south of Auckland, where he trained as a ballet dancer before being accepted into the Royal Academy of Dance at age of 16.

He went on to further training at the Elmhurst School for Dance in Birmingham and now dances with the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company alongside his brother Nathaniel.

It’s been a colourful few years for Joseph, battling serious skateboarding injuries on his way into the professional ballet world, but is getting noticed for his steely strong right leg.

Joseph speaks to producer Jeremy Brick about his career, recent United States tour and upcoming season of Coppelia that opens in Wellington on April 17 and travels to eight centres in New Zealand.
