The Green Climate Fund is giving the Kiribati government $US585,927 dollars to help the country better engage with the Fund.
The Green Climate Fund, or GCF, is a financial mechanism set up by the United Nations to provide funding so developing nations can better respond to climate change.
The Kiribati government said the grant it was given would allow it to access the largest source of climate change financing in the world.
The money will allow government ministries to strengthen their ability to engage with the international agency.
Kiribati is one of the few countries in the Pacific which have successfully met the stringent GCF requirements before it will lend to a government agency.
