A 30-year plan for transport in Auckland is being criticised for a perceived swing back to major roading projects.
Several Auckland Council members say their vision to transform transport has been watered down in the latest version of the Auckland Plan.
Transport chairman Mike Lee is angry that an east-west highway promoted by business groups is second on a list of nine projects for the next three decades.
And he says a passenger rail link to the airport which was highlighted at the start of the process, is now out of sight.
But other councillors say new roading is critical to move freight and also for buses to carry increasing numbers of commuters.
