Golfer Lydia Ko has won the Supreme Award at the Halberg Awards in Auckland last night.

She earlier won Sportswoman of the Year after an outstanding season where she successfully defended her Canadian Open title and turned professional while still a teenager.

Speaking from Melbourne, the 16-year-old said she was proud of how she had performed over the past year, but knew she could not have achieved the success she has without the support crew behind her.

Motor racer Scott Dixon beat All Black Keiran Read, cyclist Aaron Gate and equestrian Andrew Nicholson for Sportsman of the Year on Thursday night.

In a recorded message, Dixon said winning is a huge honour and it's a pleasure to represent New Zealand in his sport.

The All Blacks won Team of the Year, after going through the season unbeaten.

Sophie Pascoe won the Disabled Sportsperson of the Year.
