Auckland Mayor-elect Len Brown says the new super city council is moving with pace and momentum to make sure a new political structure is put in place.
All but one of the new councillors formally met for more than an hour on Friday.
Councillor Richard Northey had a prior engagement.
Mr Brown says a rough draft plan for what committees should be set up was discussed, but he's not planning to announce who will chair the committees until at least this week.
He says he will be disregard political affiliations when choosing the committee chairs.
Mr Brown also said he gave the councillors a clear message he does not want the new council to be divisive.
The new Auckland Council comes into being on 1 November. It will comprise eight previous councils.
