Beck quits city council after just over a year

09:45 am on 25 March 2013

Christchurch city councillor Peter Beck is resigning from the council a little over a year after being elected.

The former dean of Christ Church Cathedral won a by-election to represent the Burwood-Pegasus ward in February 2012.

He says he is leaving for largely personal reason, but admits that what he calls the infighting and the breakdown in trust at the council has been tough.

Mr Beck says he hopes at least two strong candidates run for mayor this year, because there are changes that need to be made.
