Police in Indonesia say six terrorists killed on New Year's Eve were linked to Al Qaeda and are thought to have been planning suicide bombings.
The ABC reports the men were killed in a shootout lasting nine hours in the city of Tangerang, west of the capital Jakarta, that ended early on New Year's Day.
Police said they seized six home-made bombs and bomb-making manuals, guns and almost $US20,000 in cash.
Among evidence collected at the scene were documents indicating that they planned to carry out suicide bombings.
National police chief, General Sutarman was quoted by Antara, a government news agency, as saying that one of the men had visas and documents in order to travel to the Middle East and fight a jihad (holy war) in Syria.
