Fiji police have questioned a yacht owner over claims children have been seen on his vessel, with some staying overnight.

Police said the case file on the boatie would be sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice on necessary charges.

The Ministry of Children said it had also conducted its own investigation.

However Minister Mereseini Vuniwaqa referred all queries to the police.

On Saturday, Savusavu Marina Manager, Beverly Wong, told the Fiji Times newspaper of an incident last Wednesday where the suspect allegedly arrived at his boat with a secondary school student.

Wong said she hoped something is done because she feared for the safety of her daughters and other girls in the area.

"The watchman stopped the boy from going on to the yacht and told him to go back home because he was too young to be out at 9.30pm," she told the newspaper.

"In front of us, the boy asked about the money and the yacht owner told him that the money was in the yacht."

Wong said she had informed police about the incident when they visited her that same evening.

A report lodged with police included an alleged incident of when Wong saw the boys - aged 14 years and under - wearing only their underwear while cleaning the bottom of the yacht.
