The Armed Offenders Squad is responding to a situation with a man who is holed up in a house armed with a crossbow in the small township of Okato, in Taranaki.
Police said they were called to a domestic incident shortly after 4pm and a man was carrying a crossbow when they arrived.
Officers were attempting to talk to the man and had put cordons in place on Oxford Road.
