Northland police have arrested a second person over the fatal attack on a Whangarei man last week.

A 17-year-old-man has appeared in the Whangarei District Court today, charged with the murder of Michael Griffin.

He has been granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody.

Mr Griffin was found unconscious outside his home in Second Avenue on Sunday October the 5th, and died of head injuries that night.

The first person charged with his murder, a 16-year-old boy, appeared in the Youth Court in Whangarei last week, and is also in custody.

Both teenagers will re appear in the High Court in Whangarei next Thursday.

The police said they had made good progress in the homicide inquiry thanks to help from the public.
