Two Waikato high schools are to be redeveloped at a cost of about $17 million, the government has announced.
Education Minister Hekia Parata said about $8m would be spent on Cambridge High and $9m on Ngaruawahia High School.
She said the schools had leaky buildings or classrooms that were old and in poor condition.
At Ngaruawahia, an existing classroom block will be demolished and replaced with a new one that would also function as a marae support space.
At Cambridge, a new two-storey block would be built to replace a 1953 block, and a number of other buildings would be repaired to make them weathertight.
Construction at both schools was not expected to begin until 2018.
