The NRL has set an ambitious goal of resuming the competition on 28 May but that is likely to mean the Warriors would have to relocate to Australia for the entire season.

The Warriors chair Rob Croot and CEO Cameron George had a lengthy phone conversation with NRL boss Todd Greenberg and Australian Rugby League chair Peter V'Landys yesterday to discuss how the scenario might work.

An NRL statement said the welfare needs of the Warriors needed to be met and arrangements made to ensure "the club is not competitively disadvantaged when the competition restarts."

"We want the Warriors to be part of the 2020 season and we are doing everything we can to not only make that happen but provide the support they need at a family level," V'landys said.

"It's important to understand that our aim to restart the competition on May 28 is still six weeks away. We're not proposing to start the competition next week.

"Accordingly, we have ample time to analyse the data and ensure the infection rate is at such a low level there is minimal risk to our players or the community."

V'Landys said they had discussed the "needs of the players and the preferred locations and requirements for the club".

Warriors CEO Cameron George said he raised a number of matters on behalf of the players and believed progress is being made.

"The key for us is to be in possession of all the information we need so our players, football staff and their families have a full understanding of what we're facing," he said in a statement.

"There is still much detail to be worked over... but I'm encouraged with where we are now."

The planned resumption of competition has been criticised by others in the Australian sports sector and some politicians but the NRL says it will follow government guidelines.
