The pilot of a plane leaving Wellington last night has reported a laser being shone into the cockpit.

The cockpit of the plane, which was carrying 55 passengers, was struck by a green laser shortly before 7pm as it climbed north over Lower Hutt.
The police said shining a laser into the cockpit of any aircraft was dangerous and could have serious consequences for the passengers and crew.
They said, if found, the person responsible could expect to be charged.
