Samoa's carrier, Polynesian Airlines, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Air Tahiti Nui for flights to and from Samoa.
The Samoa Observer reports the Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, has called it an historic achievement.
He says it's in line with the goal set by the Polynesian Leaders Group to connect Polynesian islands and make it easier to trade.
The flights are tipped to connect Samoa with Asia, North America and Europe.
The prime minister says he hopes the deal will also bring down the airfares for Samoans travelling overseas.
