A motorcyclist has died after crashing on SH2 north of Wellington this afternoon.

The crash on State Highway 2 River Road, involving a car, happened about 1pm.
Diversions remain in place while the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene and police ask motorists to avoid the area, if possible.
