Woods dropped by Gatorade

15:59 pm on 27 February 2010

Gatorade has ended its sponsorship of Tiger Woods. The energy drink company is the latest to cut ties with the golfer following his admission that he was unfaithful to his wife.

The company, which is owned by PepsiCo, had already discontinued a drink called Tiger Focus. It says, however, that it will continue its partnership with the Tiger Woods Foundation, a charitable organisation.

Gatorade is the third company to end its relationship with Woods: AT&T and corporate services business Accenture previously cut their sponsorship deals.

Gillette and luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer have also distanced themselves from him, while General Motors has ended an arrangement that allowed Woods free access to its vehicles.

But Nike, which pays Woods a reported $US40 million a year, continues to support him, and Electronic Arts is to go ahead with plans for an online video game featuring him.

The BBC reports that Woods earned an estimated $US100 million a year in endorsement deals before revelations of his infidelity emerged last December. He has not played in a tournament since.
