Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel said the Cranford Regeneration Plan would allow 370 news houses to be built, although developers would have to provide the council with a ground water plan before building.

"This is an ideal area for more housing because it is close to parks, shopping, schools and transport routes," she said.

She said the plan also changed the area's zoning from rural land to a Residential New Neighbourhood.
