Police have removed a group of people who sat on rail tracks in Auckland, stopping trains running on the Western Line.

The group was found sitting on tracks between New Lynn and Avondale about 9.40am.

An Auckland Transport spokesperson said the trespassers were removed from the rails by 10.45am.

It was not clear why the group was on the tracks.

Train services on the Western Line have resumed, with some slight delays, the Auckland Transport spokesperson said.
