The mother of Sophie Elliott who was stabbed to death by her former boyfriend has set up a charity with the aim of preventing violence against women.
Sophie Elliott, who was 22, was murdered in her family's Dunedin home in 2008 by her boyfriend and Otago University tutor, Clayton Weatherston.
At his trial last year, her mother Lesley Elliott told the court she would always live with the burden of not being able to save her daughter from Weatherston's attack.
Ms Elliott, along with four other trustees, has set up the Sophie Elliott Foundation to teach young people about the warning signs of abusive relationships.
It's hoped the programme will be taught at high schools around the country.
