French Polynesian assembly again fails to muster quorum

15:22 pm on 23 February 2007

The French Polynesian assembly has again failed have a scheduled meeting because only four of the 57 members were present.

The assembly last met about two months ago when it elected Gaston Tong Sang as the new president to succeed Oscar Temaru.

Some members within the new ruling coalition are reportedly trying to form a new group in the assembly.

An opposition assembly member, Sabrina Birk, says the tension in the government coalition has delayed today's sitting.

"We were supposed to meet on the 15th and that was delayed until today and today they didn't come, so it will happen tomorrow and the problem is that they do not get along together."
