Delegates from 26 Pacific Island countries met at the Sixth Pacific Regional Search and Rescue Workshop in Noumea last week.

Recognising limited financial and human resources, the workshop encouraged Pacific Island countries to improve communication and planning between the bodies responsible for aviation, maritime and land search and rescue.

The delegates agreed to accelerate a regional arrangement to promote cooperation in search and rescue matters, and update national search and rescue plans.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community and International Maritime Organization.
