Màori Battalion legacy being protected

18:38 pm on 21 April 2016

Responsibility for the 28th Màori Battalion name, emblem and trademark is to be protected in perpetuity.

It will now be officially administered by the Ngarimu VC and 28th Màori Battalion Memorial Scholarship Board.

The role was previously held by the 28th Màori Battalion Association, but it closed down in 2011.

Board chair Hekia Parata said the association saw it as the natural successor to protect the name and emblem.

She said the board will ensure the legacy of the battalion endures and continues to inspire future generations.
